* Local-ish bands. "Ish" because I'm including bands from Providence and New Hampshire.

I've been on a girl band kick recently. Here are some of the lady-centric tunes from today's show:

Vivian Girls - Where Do You Run To
This Brooklyn trio channels Phil Spector's harmonies and drum beats while maintaining a badass punk edge. While they have put out increasingly strong albums over the years, this song from their 2008 debut record is still my favorite.

Mr. Airplane Man - Not Living At All
This two-piece Boston-based band is named after a Howlin' Wolf song and makes hypnotic bluesy garage rock. Great rhythm guitar on this track.

Sister Spaceman - Here Right Now
It's no coincidence that their name is so similar to Mr. Airplane Man's: Sister Spaceman features MAM's singer/guitarist Margaret Garret and makes comparably soulful rock, only with more harmonies and a dreamier lilt.
